Does one who abandons prayer make up the prayers he left?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This is a questioner for the program, Ismail Sudani, who works in the Kingdom. He says: Does one who abandons prayer repeat what is due from him? One who abandons prayer, then repents, does he make up the prayers he left?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
As for one who abandons prayer intentionally, the correct view is that he does not have to repeat them, and he must repent; because he commits disbelief by doing so, and a disbeliever is sufficed by Islam and repentance. So whoever disbelieves does not repeat what has passed of prayer, or Ramadan, or anything else, and he must start his practice anew. This is what is obligatory for one who apostatizes from his religion. Allah the Exalted said:
But if they had associated others with Allah, then worthless for them would be whatever they were doing.
[Al-An'am: 88] And He the Exalted said:
And whoever denies the faith - his work has become worthless, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.
[Al-Ma'idah: 5].
So what is obligatory for him is to repent to Allah, return to Him, turn to Him in repentance, take care of prayer, and preserve it in the future. He does not have to make up what has passed; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Between a man and disbelief and shirk (associating partners with Allah) is the abandonment of prayer.
narrated by Muslim in his Sahih; and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam)
narrated by Imam Ahmad and the people of the Sunan with a sound chain; and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The head of the matter is Islam, and its pillar is the Salat
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2616Hasan (Darussalam)
And the evidence for this is abundant.
So what is obligatory for every Muslim, and for every Muslim woman, is to take care of prayer and preserve it in its times. This is what is obligatory for all Muslims, men and women: to take care of prayer and preserve it in its time; because of the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
Maintain with care the [obligatory] prayers and [in particular] the middle prayer
[Al-Baqarah: 238] meaning: the afternoon prayer.
and stand before Allah, devoutly obedient.
[Al-Baqarah: 238]; and His saying (Exalted and Majestic is He):
And establish prayer and give zakah and obey the Messenger - that you may receive mercy.
[An-Nur: 56]; and His saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
and establish prayer.
[Al-'Ankabut: 45]; and what has preceded of hadiths. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
