Ruling on paying zakah on a car

Question:
The questioner, Hazim from Jordan, asks in this question: Is it obligatory to pay zakah on the car that is at my disposal, and how is that done?

Answer:
If the car is for sale, zakah is paid on it, if it is for sale, trading, and profit. But if it is not, if it is for use, there is no zakah on it. You use it for your needs, there is no zakah on it. But if you buy cars seeking profit, then there is zakah on these, considering the principal amount of money you have. If the money you have, for example, is from Muharram and you bought the cars in Safar or Rabi', when the time for the money comes in Muharram, you pay zakah on the cars, after knowing their value.
The point is: cars that are bought for selling, trading, and profit are subject to zakah, but if they are bought for use, there is no zakah on them. Yes.
