What is the ruling on traveling (migrating) to the lands of the disbelievers? And mentioning the story of the Prophet’s migration from Makkah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The way to preserve their Islam and their religion, even though many of those lands, and foremost among them Makkah, they left behind in order to preserve their religion and their creed. Perhaps everyone remembers with me that when the disbelievers and their harassment of him and those with him from the Muslims compelled the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to migrate from Makkah to al-Madinah, he addressed Makkah saying:
Indeed, you are among the most beloved of Allah’s lands to Allah, and among the most beloved of Allah’s lands to me, and had not your people expelled me from you, I would not have left.
. So these people migrated from the Sacred House of Allah to al-Madinah in order to know the correct Islam through their companionship with the noble Prophet on one hand, and in order to be able to perform the rituals of their religion, as that new environment helps them. As for us today, we leave the lands of Islam and migrate to the lands of disbelief. And I am, of course, reminding you that the lands of Islam today are not as they were before, but in any case, they are not lands of disbelief, but rather lands of Islam. So it is not permissible for Muslims to travel, and of course, I guard my tongue from saying that they should migrate, so I say it is not permissible for them to travel from the lands of Islam and settle in the lands of disbelief, shirk, and tyranny. Because many hadiths have come regarding this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), some of which are explicit in prohibiting residing with the mushriks, as we mentioned earlier from some of the hadiths. Among them is his saying (peace be upon him):
Whoever associates with a mushrik is like him.
. Whoever associates with a mushrik is like him. The association here is mixing and companionship, and it is not the association of a man with his wife, but rather this is the category of a Muslim mixing with others. So it is not permissible in Islam for a Muslim to mix with the mushriks, nor is it permissible for him to live in their lands, nor is it permissible for him to live in their neighborhoods, as they say in some of our lands. We have in Syria, as you all know, that it was the land of the Romans, the Romans ruled them, Heraclius ruled them, then our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) opened those lands by the hand of Khalid ibn al-Walid and Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah, and the banner of Islam was raised in those lands, and disbelief submitted to the rulings of Islam. So they lived in the lands of Sham, and they paid the jizyah from the hand while they were humbled. Therefore, it was part of the system of Islam that when the Muslims settled in those lands, they distinguished themselves, separated, and isolated themselves in their dwellings, their houses, and their shops from the dwellings and houses of the Christians. And there still exists today in some of our lands, like Damascus and others, a neighborhood called the Jewish Quarter, a neighborhood called the Christian Quarter, meaning these two areas are exclusively for the residence of Jews and Christians. Why? Because Islam wants the Muslim to remain holding onto his Islamic identity. If he mixes with the mushriks, resides with them, and associates with them, he steals, whether he realizes it or not, something of their customs and traditions, especially since their customs and traditions are usually what the souls desire, so the souls that command evil incline to imitate the disbelievers in such matters. And thus the Muslim begins to deviate from Islam little by little, perhaps becoming one day as it came in some athar: "He does not know of Islam except its name." And I am hearing about the "Brazit," and the Brazit today is not permissible, O Abu 'Abdullah. Do you know the Brazit? It means the opposition radio to the established radio. Yes, they call it in our Syria the Brazit, meaning jamming. Yes, so the important thing is that one should listen to the sermon, perhaps Allah (Mighty and Majestic) will benefit with it. Psychologists say that nature is a thief; the nature of man is a thief, meaning he takes from the customs and traditions of people unconsciously. And the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed to this reality in some of the authentic and beautiful hadiths. Among them is his saying (peace be upon him)—the radio is interfering—his saying (peace be upon him):
The example of the good companion is like the seller of musk; either he gives you some for free, or you buy from him, or you smell a pleasant scent from him.
. So the example of the good companion is that he is a gainer, not a loser, in all circumstances. Either he takes, and this is the greatest gain, for free, he gives you, or you buy from him with a dirham or a dinar, or at least you smell a pleasant scent.
And the example of the bad companion is like the blacksmith; either he burns your clothes, or you smell a foul scent from him.
. So the association of a Muslim with a mushrik, especially in his home, the customs of the disbelievers overcome him and draw him away from the customs of the Muslims little by little. Therefore, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) cut off the root of being influenced by the disbelievers when he closed the door of travel and the door of residing with the mushriks in their lands, and he said:
The Muslim and the mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) do not see each other's fires.
. If you light a fire here, and there is a man far from you lighting a fire like yours, because of his distance from you, you do not see his fire and he does not see your fire. This is a very beautiful indication taken from the customs of the Arabs. The Muslim and the mushrik do not see each other's fires, meaning reside very, very far from the home of the mushrik so that you do not see his fire and he does not see your fire. The Muslim and the mushrik do not see each other's fires
I am innocent of any Muslim who resides among the mushrikin (those who associate partners with Allah).
. And we know the influence on Muslims who live a few years, not their whole life, a few years they live in the lands of disbelief, they return to us and their circumstances have changed, their morals have changed, and their customs have changed. As for those who reside in the lands of disbelief, the boy becomes George ibn Ahmad, his name is Tanius ibn Muhammad. Why? Because he has exited being a Muslim. Why? Because he studied in the schools of the Christians and registered in the records of the Christians, so the father lost his son and his daughters a great and clear loss. For this reason, it is never permissible for Muslims to travel with the intention of residing in the lands of disbelief.
