Ruling on the zakah of orphans' wealth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, Sister Umm Awad al-Qahatani, says: Your Eminence, I am a widow with seven orphans, and I live in a modest house. I have an income from which I and my children subsist. I received ten thousand riyals in zakah from people of good, and I kept it for the time being, meaning for my children's future. The period I kept this money was approximately two years. Is zakah obligatory on it, even though we are poor?

Answer:
Yes, zakah is obligatory on it. For every one thousand, twenty-five is due, which is a quarter of a tenth, whether it is for you or for the children, or for both of you together. This is what Allah has made obligatory. He the Exalted said:
And establish prayer and give zakahوَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ
[Surat al-Baqarah: 43]. The zakah of orphans' wealth must be paid, so the guardian of the orphan must pay the zakah on behalf of his orphan. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
