Ruling on Preventing a Wife from Visiting Her Family

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We move on to a message from the questioner (F. M.) in Makkah al-Mukarramah, who says: Does the husband have the right to prevent his wife from visiting her parents, and is she allowed to go without his knowledge?
Please inform us of this.

Answer:
Yes, if there is harm in it. If her parents are inciting her against him, or calling her to sins and shirk (associating partners with Allah), he has the right to prevent her. But if her parents do not command her with anything but good, and there is no harm in her visiting her parents, he has no right to prevent her from doing so at the appropriate times he sees fit; because preventing her would be a form of undutifulness to parents. However, he should specify the appropriate times for her and grant her permission during those times.
As for if the visit to her parents causes harm, because they are calling her to falsehood, to shirk (associating partners with Allah), to sins, or to marital defiance, there is no objection to his preventing her from that, in order to protect her from harm, for her visit is a source of harm to him and to her. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
