The Ruling on a Woman Refraining from Visiting Her Husband's Family

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
She says: There is often a quarrel between me and my husband's sister, which affects my marital life, resulting in severe unhappiness that is indescribable.
My question, O Noble Shaykh: Is there sin in my boycotting her and not visiting her? And are the husband's family, in general, considered relatives (awrah) for the son's wife?

Answer:
They are not relatives, but maintaining contact with the best manner, kind words, patience, and tolerance is better. If you treat her with gentleness and kind words, and do not pay attention to her bad speech, and pardon and forgive her, that is better and more excellent. If you cannot do that, then boycotting is preferable, and not visiting them if this leads to harm between you and your husband. So leave visiting her and speaking with her. If you can bear patience, ignore her bad speech, and be lenient with her, that is good, and the problem will end, and she will return from her error and badness toward you. But if you say a word and she says a word, and there is no patience, the matter will be prolonged and harm will occur. However, we advise you to be lenient, not to respond to her, and to bear and be patient until she returns to the right path and stops causing harm. If you cannot bear it and be patient, then leave the visitation, and there is no blame on you for that.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
