Question:
The first message in this episode is from the Yemen Arab Republic, Ibb Governorate. The sender is listener Abd al-Karim Ahmad Saleh. Brother Abd al-Karim asks and says: Is it permissible for a woman to combine the 'Asr and Zuhr prayers? Or is it not permissible? And is it obligatory for her to perform the sunnah before the prayer? Please answer us, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows: The man and the woman are equal in this matter. Each of them must pray the prayer at its time. So Zuhr is at its time, 'Asr is at its time, Maghrib is at its time, 'Isha' is at its time, and Fajr is at its time, for both men and women. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set the times for the prayers and said (peace and blessings be upon him):.
So the woman must pray Zuhr at its time and 'Asr at its time, and she does not combine them. Likewise, Maghrib is at its time and 'Isha' is at its time, and she does not combine them, just as the man does not. Likewise, Fajr is at its time, except for a valid legal excuse. For example, a traveler has no problem combining the two prayers. A sick person, whether male or female, has no problem combining the two prayers. Likewise, in rain that causes harm to the Muslim, it is permissible for the worshippers in the mosques to combine Maghrib and 'Isha' when there is rain and slippery roads that cause harm. It is prescribed for them to combine Maghrib and 'Isha', and likewise to combine Zuhr and 'Asr, according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions, as a facilitation from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for His servants and a mercy for His servants. And He, Exalted is He, loves that His dispensations be taken, just as He dislikes that His disobedience be committed.
Likewise, if a woman is a woman with irregular bleeding, as in the hadith of Himmah bint Jahsh, where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted her a dispensation to delay Zuhr and hasten 'Asr and combine them, and to delay Maghrib and hasten 'Isha' and combine them, because of her irregular bleeding, because of the blood continuing with her. This is also an excuse.
As for a healthy woman who is not traveling, she has no right to combine. Likewise, the man has no right to combine except with a valid legal excuse.
May Allah guide them all. Yes.
The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
