The Ruling on a Woman Using Cosmetics on Her Face

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener (N. H. A. D) sent a message containing a number of questions, one of which reads: I read in the book *Fiqh al-Mar’ah al-Muslimah* (Jurisprudence of the Muslim Woman) that what a woman puts on her face from cosmetics, such as lipstick, makeup, and powder, is considered forbidden (haram), as the author of the book categorized this act under the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Those who alter the creation of Allahالمغيرات خلق الله
, where the beginning of the hadith states:
The curse is upon the one who tattoos, the one who gets tattooed, the one who plucks her eyebrows, the one who gets her eyebrows plucked, and the one who files her teeth for the sake of beautyاللعن للواشمة والمستوشمة والواشرة والمستوشرة، والمتفلجة للحسن
. Is the author’s categorization of these things that a woman does considered correct and forbidden?

Answer:
It is not correct, and this is an error. This is not from the category of altering Allah’s creation. This is of the same kind as kohl and henna; there is no harm in it. If she applies henna, or applies kohl, or washes her face with something... with soap or other things that clean the face, all of this has no harm in it. Likewise, powder and reddening the lips; all of this has no harm in it, if Allah wills. This is not of the kind of altering Allah’s creation. Altering Allah’s creation is of the kind of tattooing and of the kind of hair extension. As for what is prohibited, it is of the kind of hair buns... they call it a wig. That is what contains the evil.
As for her putting something of redness or dye on her lips, or kohl in her eyes, or something similar with which the face is washed, all of this has no harm in it.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
