The Obligations of Educators and Teachers Toward Their Students

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, Ibrahim Abu Hamid, says in this question: Your Eminence, what is the obligation of educators and teachers toward their students? And are they a trust for which they will be questioned on the Day of Resurrection?

Answer:
Yes, the educator and the teacher must give advice to the learner. The one being raised must be given advice and directed toward good, and one must fear Allah in his regard; because he is a trust. So it is obligatory for the educator and the teacher to fear Allah, to strive in raising children, orphans, and young children, to teach them well, to fear Allah in that, and to teach them from what Allah has taught them in the Shariah manner. This includes teaching them the jurisprudence of prayer, ordering them to pray when they reach seven years of age, and striking them for it when they reach ten years of age. All of this is what is obligatory for the guardian and the teacher to direct the students to this good. And if he is not permitted to strike them, their guardian strikes them when they reach ten years of age and do not pray.
So the conclusion is: it is upon the guardian and the teacher to direct the students, both male and female, and it is upon him to teach everyone and educate everyone in the religion, so that they learn what Allah has made obligatory upon them and what He has forbidden upon them. May Allah help us. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah grant us assistance. May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
