Ruling on Giving Zakah to a Son, Brother, and Sister

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to spend zakah on a son and a brother who inherits from his mother, or a sister who has no husband?
We ask that you guide us, may Allah reward you with good, and also the son if he is in need?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
There is no harm in spending zakah on a poor brother, a poor sister, and other poor relatives such as maternal uncles, paternal uncles, a paternal cousin, and the like, due to the generality of the evidence, including His saying (Exalted and Majestic is He):
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needyإِنَّمَا الصَّدَقَاتُ لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ
[At-Tawbah: 60]. They fall under this noble verse.
As for the son, no; as for the children, no; because they are a part of the man, so zakah is not spent on them, and he is obligated to provide for them. A person’s children, whether male or female, and the children of his children, however far down the line, are not given zakah if they are poor. He gives them from his own wealth and spends on them from his own wealth, not from zakah. This is the position of the scholars. Likewise, fathers, mothers, grandfathers, and grandmothers are not given from zakah; their children spend on them from their own wealth, not from zakah. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
