The ruling on feasts held after the death of a person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: Also, among the customs present with us, when a person dies, whether male or female, they slaughter an animal for him and celebrate for three days. They also recite the Noble Qur'an and say: "This is a charity that follows him," considering it a charity for the deceased. They say: "We do not act according to any school of jurisprudence other than ours, whether it is true or not." So what is your guidance for the people?
May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
This is not permissible; rather, it is a religious innovation and a practice of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance. It is not fitting to slaughter an animal after death and invite people for two, three, or ten days. All of this has no basis. What is prescribed is to make supplication for the deceased, send blessings upon him, and seek forgiveness for him. If his neighbors or relatives prepare food and send it to the deceased's family, there is nothing wrong with that. When the news of the martyrdom of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) , who was killed at Mu'tah in the Levant, reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he ordered his family to prepare food for the family of Ja'far and said:
Indeed, something has come to them that occupies them.إنه قد أتاهم ما يشغلهم
Sunan ad-Daraqutni 8:37
Therefore, if the neighbors or relatives prepare food for them, there is nothing wrong with it. However, if they prepare food, hold a wedding feast, invite people, and grieve for three or seven days, this has no basis. This is a religious innovation. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
