The Virtue of Dhikr and Encouraging Some Forms of Dhikr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner (J. R.) from Buraydah says: I am asking about the virtue of dhikr and its status. For example: Should I say: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, and Allahu Akbar, should I recite them in this manner, or should I say: Subhan Allah thirty-three times, then finish and say: Alhamdulillah thirty-three times?
Please guide me in this matter. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
Dhikr has a great status, and it is among the best of deeds. The best of it is reciting the Qur'an. The best dhikr is the speech of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) , then what Allah has prescribed for His servants of tasbih, tahmid, tahlil, and takbir, and saying: La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah, and du'a. All of this is dhikr. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says:
O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance
[Al-Ahzab 33:41]
and glorify Him in the morning and in the evening [Al-Ahzab: 41-42]. And He says (Exalted and Majestic is He):
So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.
[Al-Baqarah: 152]. And He says (Exalted and Majestic is He):
Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient womenإِنَّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَالْقَانِتِينَ وَالْقَانِتَاتِ
[Al-Ahzab: 35] until He says (Glorified is He):
and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so - for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.
[Al-Ahzab: 35]. And He says (Exalted and Majestic is He):
And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.
[Al-Jumu'ah: 10].
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The ones who have gone ahead
They said: O Messenger of Allah, who are the ones who are ahead? He said:
those males and females who remember Allah muchالذاكرون الله كثيرًا والذاكرات
Sahih Muslim 2676
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remember Allah in all his states." He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remember Allah in all his states, meaning: night and day, in a state of purity and in a state of impurity.
This clarifies for us the virtue of dhikr, and that it is incumbent upon the believer to increase in it, even if he is in a state of impurity. What requires purity is reciting the Qur'an; the one in a state of major impurity does not recite it, and the one in a state of minor impurity does not touch the mushaf. As for the rest of the adhkar, the one in a state of impurity and the one in a state of purity say them: tasbih, tahlil, tahmid, takbir, saying: La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah, and istighfar. All of this is dhikr.
And regarding dhikr after the prayer, you have a choice in it. If you wish, you can separate them, and if you wish, you can combine them. If you wish to combine them, you say:
"Subhana l-lah", "Al hamdu li l-lah" and "Allahu Akbar"
Sahih al-Bukhari 843
thirty-three times, then you complete the hundred by saying:
There is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belong the Kingdom and praise, and He has power over everything
Muwatta Malik 20:131
after every prayer of the five prayers. And if you wish to separate them, you say: Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah, thirty-three times, then you say: Alhamdulillah thirty-three times, then Allahu Akbar thirty-three times. The matter is broad in this.
And you have another type, which is that you say: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, and Allahu Akbar twenty-five times, adding La ilaha illa Allah to it. Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, and Allahu Akbar, twenty-five times, after every prayer. You have a choice between this and that.
Then you recite Ayat al-Kursi
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence
[Al-Baqarah: 255], then you recite
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
[Al-Ikhlas: 1] and the two Mu'awwidhat after every prayer, and you repeat them three times after Maghrib and Fajr and when going to sleep. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to increase in tasbih: Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, Subhan Allah al-Azim. And he said:
The dearest phrases to Allah are four
Sahih Muslim 2137a
He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The dearest phrases to Allah are four: Subhan Allah (Hallowed be Allah), Al-Hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illa-Allah (There is no deity but Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greater).
Sahih Muslim 2137a
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
SubhanAllah, wal-hamdulilah, wa la illaha ill-Allah, wa Allahu Akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa Billahil-aliy al-azim (Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, Allah is Most Great, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah the Exalted and Magnificent
Sunan an-Nasa'i 924Hasan (Darussalam)
.
And if it is easy for you to recite the Qur'an, then the Qur'an is the best dhikr, from memory or from the mushaf. That is among the best of deeds. The speech of Allah is the best dhikr, and for every letter you have a good deed, and the good deed is multiplied ten times. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Your Eminence.
