Dispute with the wife's family: Is it permissible to cut off visiting them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 8727 )
Q: I have a dispute with my wife's family, which includes my wife's father (my uncle), her mother (my aunt), and their sons (my wife's brothers). This has been the case since my marriage, which was about seven years ago. I have always been the one to initiate visits and maintain ties, fulfilling all the rights of kinship between us that Allah has commanded us to uphold. However, on the first day of the Eid al-Fitr festival in the year 1404 AH, I went to visit them with my father. We found my wife outside the house, crying because her family had prevented her from seeing me. We took her and brought her to our home. That same day, they attacked us without our noticing them. They tried to beat me but were unable to, so they beat my father and my brother. We were safe from any such harm, as there was no reason for it other than their attempt to separate me from my wife and children. Their attack resulted in my father and brother being hospitalized, and the attackers were sent to prison. It is known that the one who carried out the attack from beginning to end was my uncle, my wife's father, along with his wife and their sons. Since that incident until today, I have not visited them, nor do I wish to visit them, as I fear their harm.
Do I have to visit them after that, or is there nothing required of me? I fear their harm. I ask your eminence to inform me. Please issue a ruling on this, may Allah reward you and guide your steps.

A : If the matter is as you described, and the reason for the severance of ties was on the part of your wife's family, and you fear their harm if you visit them, then there is no need to visit them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
