The ruling on a woman who becomes pure from menstruation during one of the times of prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says: If a woman becomes pure from her menstruation during one of the five times for prayer, what is obligatory for her to pray?
The Shaykh: Repeat.
The presenter: He says: If a woman becomes pure from her menstruation during one of the five times for prayer, what is obligatory for her to pray? And does she make up the prayer that was immediately before her purification, such as if she becomes pure during the time of 'Asr, does she make up the Zuhr, or if she becomes pure during the time of Maghrib, does she make up the 'Asr, and so on?
Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you.
Answer:
If she becomes pure during the time of a prayer that is combined with the one following it, she prays the two. So if she becomes pure during the time of 'Asr, she prays Zuhr and 'Asr. If she becomes pure during the time of 'Isha', she prays Maghrib and 'Isha'. If she becomes pure after the appearance of Fajr, she prays Fajr only. This is what is obligatory for her, as a group of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them and grant them satisfaction) issued a ruling to this effect; because she is like one with an excuse, such as a sick person, who combines the two prayers.
So if she becomes pure during 'Asr, she is like a sick person (she prays Zuhr and 'Asr). And if she becomes pure during the night, she prays Maghrib and 'Isha'. As for if she does not become pure until after Fajr, she prays Fajr only. But if her purification—her becoming pure—occurred when the bleeding stopped after the sun had risen, and she did not become pure until the late morning, then she owes nothing; because the time of Fajr has passed, the time of Fajr has gone, and she did not become pure until after the sun had risen, so she owes nothing except the obligatory prayers that are yet to come. But if she becomes pure during the time of a prayer, becoming pure before the sun rises, she prays Fajr. If she becomes pure before Fajr, she prays Maghrib and 'Isha'. If she becomes pure before the sun sets, she prays 'Asr and Zuhr. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you, Your Eminence.
