The Stronger Position on the Ruling of Breastfeeding an Adult

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The first message in this episode is from the listener Umm Bilal, from Khamis Mushait. She has several questions in reality. In the first question, she asks: What is the stronger jurisprudential position regarding the hadiths concerning the breastfeeding of an adult?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
The scholars have differed on whether the breastfeeding of an adult has any effect or not.
The reason for this is that it is reported in an authentic hadith from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): "That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Suhailah bint Suhayl to breastfeed Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah, who was an adult and a slave in the possession of her husband. When he grew up, she asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a solution to this matter, so he ordered her to breastfeed him five times." The scholars differed on this, and the correct of the scholars' opinions is that this is specific to Salim and Suhailah bint Suhayl, and is not general for people, but rather this is specific to them, as stated by the majority of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and as stated by a large number of scholars, and this is the truth; due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The suckling that makes marriage unlawful is that which reaches the intestines (i.e. nourishes the child), and is taken before (two years) time of weaning.لا رضاع إلا ما فتق الأمعاء، وكان قبل الفطام
Bulugh al-Maram 8:197
and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
as fostership is only valid if it takes place in the suckling period (before two years of age).إنما الرضاعة من المجاعة
Sahih al-Bukhari 2647
narrated by the two Shaykhs in the two Sahihs; and also his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Suckling applies only (to infants) during the first two years (of their life).لا رضاع إلا في الحولين
Bulugh al-Maram 8:198
.
So these hadiths indicate that breastfeeding is specific to the two years, and breastfeeding after that has no effect, and this is the truth, and Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) is the One who grants success, yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
