The Ruling on Praying Behind One Who Believes in the Fortune-Tellers and Diviners

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This is a questioner from Jazan, Nur al-Din, who says in this question: Is it permissible to pray behind a man who believes in fortune-tellers and diviners?
Knowing that he is consistent in prayer, fasts in Ramadan, and does good.

Answer:
One who believes the soothsayers, diviners, and astrologers should not be prayed behind. He should be advised and taught that it is not permissible for him to believe them, visit them, or ask them. If he persists in that and does not care, he should not be prayed behind, for he is in danger. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever visits a diviner or a soothsayer and believes what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).من أتى عرافًا، أو كاهنًا، فصدقه بما يقول، فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد -عليه الصلاة والسلام-
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:740
And in the other wording:
He who visits a diviner ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted.من أتى عرافًا فسأله عن شيء لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين ليلة
Sahih Muslim 2230
He did not believe them merely by asking, so how much more if he believed them? Because believing them implies that he believes they know the unseen. And whoever says that anyone knows the unseen other than Allah is a disbeliever.
So it is obligatory to be cautious of believing the soothsayers and diviners, and to be cautious of asking them. Whoever does not care about this, but rather believes them and asks them, should not be prayed behind. We ask Allah for safety.

The presenter: May Allah reward you, Your Eminence.
