Combining the Two Hadiths on Visiting a Diviner and Believing Him
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
How do we combine the following two hadiths: The hadith: (Whoever visits a diviner and asks him about something and believes him, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days).
And the hadith: (Whoever visits a diviner or a soothsayer and believes him has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him))?So the question here is: Does the belief continue with the person, or does it cease, since he believed him only at that moment and did not continue in the belief, as if another person asked him, and he guided him, and so on?
As for the wording of the first hadith, it does not contain (and believed him). The correct wording is: (Whoever visits a diviner and asks him about something, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days), and it does not contain the wording of belief.
As for the second: So in it is the belief,And the aspect of his disbelief in what was revealed to Muhammad: that it settles in his heart that this one is truthful, and it is a matter of the unseen that is to come; For that includes disbelief in the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Surah al-Naml: 65].
And belief is sufficient if he believes him at the outset; it does not mean that he waits until reality confirms it, or does not confirm it;Because if he waits and says: we look to see if what he said happens or does not happen, so he did not believe him in reality; but his prayer will not be accepted for forty days.
So belief is that he is reassured by his statement and sees that it is truth and that it will come to pass.
As for saying: I will try it, so this is what he believed.
Likewise, if one visits a soothsayer or a diviner and asks him in order to expose his lie, then there is no harm in that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Ibn Sayyad, who claimed that one came to him, about something he had kept in his heart, which was the chapter (al-Dukhan),So he said: which is in your heart is (al-Dukh), and he was unable to reach the full utterance of it,The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: (Be silent! You will not exceed your status).
