Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Among her questions, she asks: Is it permissible for a woman to sit with her father-in-law if she is compelled to do so, provided that the woman is covered, wearing the hijab that covers her head and her entire body?

Answer:
Yes, she may sit with her husband’s brother or her husband’s paternal uncle if a third person is present with them, without any suspicion. However, she may not be alone with her husband’s paternal uncle or her husband’s brother; it is not permissible for her to be in seclusion with them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No person should be alone with a woman except when there is a Mahram with herلا يخلون رجل بامرأة إلا ومعها ذو محرم
Sahih Muslim 1341a
It is not permissible for her to be in seclusion. But if she sits with her husband’s brother or her husband’s paternal uncle in the presence of her father, her mother, or her sisters, there is no harm. What is forbidden is seclusion. Yes.
