The ruling on raising the hands and making du'a for the deceased when consoling his family

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From the questions of the female listener from Sudan, she says: O Shaykh, if we go to console someone, she says: Before we shake hands with the deceased's family, we raise our hands and make du'a for the deceased, then we shake their hands. Is this practice valid?

Answer:
I do not know of any basis for it, but making du'a for the deceased is permissible, whether before or after. As for raising the hands and making it a habit, this has no basis. However, if a person greets them and makes du'a for their deceased, whether before or after, there is no blame on him; it is all good. As for raising the hand before that and making du'a before that, I do not know of any basis for it.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
