What benefits reach the deceased from the living?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He asks: What are the means by which a living person can benefit a deceased person? Is it permissible to recite the Qur'an as a gift for the deceased, and is charity also permissible on his behalf?

Answer:
The deceased benefits from charity given on his behalf, supplication for him, Hajj performed on his behalf, and 'Umrah. All of these benefit him, as does paying off his debt if he had one. As for gifting the Qur'an, there is no evidence for it, and it is not prescribed to gift the Qur'an, meaning to read it in order to dedicate its reward to him. This is not prescribed, according to the correct view. As for charity on his behalf, it benefits him by the consensus of the Muslims. Likewise, supplication for him for forgiveness, mercy, high ranks, and pardon for sins benefits him by the consensus of the Muslims. Similarly, if one performs Hajj or 'Umrah on his behalf, it benefits him. Likewise, if one pays off his debt if he had one, all of this benefits the deceased. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
