What Reaches the Dead Person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
O Shaykh! If the deceased's children make a continuous charity, or knowledge that is beneficial, for the deceased, does this benefit the deceased even if he did not bequeath it because he was unable to do so?
Yes, if the deceased's relatives make a charity for the deceased, it benefits him. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that Sa'd ibn Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) sought his permission to make his date grove in Medina—Meaning: his palm trees that bear dates—a charity for his mother, so he permitted him.And a man asked him, saying: (O Messenger of Allah! My mother was taken suddenly, and I think that if she had been able to speak, she would have given charity—"Her soul was taken suddenly" means: she died suddenly—should I give charity on her behalf? He said: Yes), so there is no harm.
As for beneficial knowledge, how can this be? This is possible by buying books and making them a charity for his father, so it becomes beneficial knowledge.
