The Ruling on Seclusion with a Non-Mahram Woman

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a message we received from our listener Muhammad from Libya. We presented one of his questions in a previous episode, and we will present the rest of his questions—inshallah—in this episode. He asks and says: What is the ruling on seclusion with a non-mahram woman in a car, or an office, or a house?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
The ruling on seclusion with a non-mahram woman in a car, or an office, or elsewhere is prohibition; its ruling is prohibition without doubt. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
No person should be alone with a woman except when there is a Mahram with herلا يخلون رجل بامرأة إلا ومعها ذو محرم
Sahih Muslim 1341a
It is agreed upon that it is authentic. And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
A woman should not travel except with a mahramلا تسافر امرأة إلا مع ذي محرم
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9:2565
It is agreed upon that it is authentic.
And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
A man should not be alone with a woman, for the Shaytan is the third among them.لا يخلون رجل بامرأة؛ فإن الشيطان ثالثهما
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 2:94
Imam Ahmad narrated it from the hadith of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) with a sound chain of narration.
Therefore, a man must not be alone with a woman, neither in an office, nor in a car, nor in a room. Rather, he must beware of that, because Satan may call to what has no good outcome. For this reason, he said:
For indeed, Satan is the third among themفإن الشيطان ثالثهما
Thus said the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Included in this is what may happen to some people who have a female secretary, and they sit with her in his office. This is an abomination; it is not permissible for a man to have a female secretary with whom he is alone in his office, or his home, or elsewhere. Rather, a man should have a male secretary, and a woman should have a female secretary. So women are for women, and men are for men. As for taking a female secretary in his office, or in his administration, or in his clinic because he is a doctor, or something similar, this is not permissible. This is a great abomination and a means to great evil.
Likewise, seclusion in a car, where he takes her here and there with no one with him, is a means to great evil. Satan may overcome him, and he may take her wherever he wishes. He may even agree with her in the car on what has no good outcome. So all of this is not permissible. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
