The questioner : I once sought assistance to purchase a loudspeaker for our village mosque and obtained the money from those who love to do good, then I went to buy the loudspeaker, but I deducted the cost of the round trip from the money collected for the mosque, knowing that the journey was long and I had no money with me. Is this action permissible? And what is required of me if I made a mistake?

The Shaykh : Yes, this action is permissible and there is no blame on you, because this is in the interest of the loudspeaker. However, you must not use the best means of transport if it is possible to use something less, for example, we say: do not hire a luxury car when a lesser car is available that achieves the purpose, because you are a trustee, and a trustee must strive to obtain the thing at the lowest cost.
