Ruling on the imam hastening into bowing if he makes a mistake in the recitation

Question:
The imam of our mosque recites a surah after al-Fatihah, but if he forgets a verse, he says takbir and bows, without giving the ma'mum (congregation) a chance to remind him. He also sometimes stops in the middle of a verse and says takbir. On one occasion, he read a long verse and did not complete it. Is his action valid?
Answer:
There is no harm in that, and praise be to Allah, there is no harm in it. If he stops until he is reminded, there is nothing wrong with that, and there is no harm in it, especially if he is struggling with the recitation at the beginning. The Sunnah is to recite an appropriate amount after al-Fatihah, in each prayer according to what is suitable in the Shari'ah. For Zuhr, 'Asr, Maghrib, 'Isha', and Fajr, if he does not bow and benefits from the ma'mum by having them remind him, that is good. But if he has recited a sufficient amount, praise be to Allah.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
