The Superiority of Reciting the Qur'an over Listening to It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our sister says: I listen to a cassette tape of the Noble Qur'an every morning, but I ask: which is better, listening to the recitation of the Noble Qur'an, or reciting it myself, especially if I understand more when I recite than when I listen?

Answer:
Reciting is better; you should recite and reflect, because Allah the Exalted said:
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon itsكِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ
[Surah Sad: 29], and He said—(Exalted and Majestic is He)—:
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?أَفَلا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ أَمْ عَلَى قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَا
[Surah Muhammad: 24]. So it is better for you to recite. If you listen sometimes and your heart becomes humble, that is all good. Listening is good, and reciting is good, but reciting is better. You get one good deed for every letter, and one good deed is multiplied by ten. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Recite this Qur'an; for it will come as an intercessor for its people on the Day of Resurrectionاقرءوا هذا القرآن؛ فإنه يأتي شفيعًا لأصحابه يوم القيامة
Do what is best for your heart. If you feel lazy, listen, pay attention, and benefit from the tape. If you feel energetic for recitation, recite and reflect. All of it is good, and all of it is good, yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
