Is qunut recommended in the witr prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I heard that performing qunut continuously in the witr prayer is not necessary, but I feel comfortable performing it. Is that permissible, or not?

Answer:
Qunut is not obligatory; rather, it is recommended. If a believer, male or female, omits it at times, there is no harm. However, making it a constant practice is more preferable and better. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his grandson al-Hasan ibn 'Ali the qunut of witr. He did not tell him to do it only at times, but taught him in a way that indicates he should adhere to it and perform it at all times, saying: "O Allah, guide me among those You have guided..." and so on. Therefore, for a person to perform qunut in witr throughout the year is good according to the most correct opinion of the scholars, and there is no harm. If he omits it at times, there is no blame on him.
The point is that it is a recommended practice, not obligatory. Maintaining it constantly is better and more preferable, based on the apparent meaning of the hadith of al-Hasan ibn 'Ali. The Companions would perform it at times and omit it at times. So the matter is broad—praise be to Allah—but maintaining it is more preferable and better based on the apparent meaning of the authentic hadith.
May Allah reward you with good.
