Is qunut obligatory in the witr prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: Also, in his letter he says: Is qunut among the requirements of the witr prayer? And is it reported that he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed witr without qunut?
The answer: Qunut is not among the requirements; qunut is recommended. Witr is recommended, and qunut is recommended. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught al-Hasan ibn 'Ali to do it, so it is recommended and not obligatory. We do not know that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was consistent in performing qunut, just as we do not know that he left it at times and performed it at other times. However, the Companions performed it at times and left it at other times. Ubayy ibn Ka'b, when he led the people in prayer during the time of 'Umar, would leave it at times and perform qunut at other times. So there is no blame in leaving it, because it is a voluntary prayer. If one leaves it at times, there is nothing wrong with that. Yes.
