What is the ruling on qunut in the witr prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is qunut in the witr prayer a recommended practice?

Answer:
It is recommended, recommended. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught al-Hasan ibn 'Ali.
Q: What about the one who leaves it?
The Shaykh: There is no blame on him; it is recommended.
Q: In Ramadan, they sometimes leave the qunut and sometimes perform it, saying: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform qunut one day and leave it another day?
The Shaykh: This has no basis, but it is recommended. If one leaves it, there is nothing wrong with that. The Companions did it sometimes, performing qunut at times and not at others. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught al-Hasan; he did not say, "Do it sometimes and leave it other times." He taught him the qunut, how to perform it. So if one persists in it, there is nothing wrong with that. A group of the Companions did it. And if one leaves it at times, there is nothing wrong with that. It is a recommended voluntary act. And if one leaves it at times to let people know that it is not obligatory, that is for the sake of teaching.
