Ruling on Asking Others for Supplication

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The mother of al-Bara' from Abha says: Your Eminence, Shaykh—may Allah preserve you—is it permissible for a person to ask someone to make supplication for him, such as saying, "Pray for me during your journey," or "Do not forget us in your supplications," or the like? Is this seeking nearness to Allah through means other than Allah? Please guide us in light of this. May Allah reward you.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon His Messenger, upon his family, and upon his Companions, and upon whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
Asking a brother in Allah, or a sister in Allah, for supplication is blameless, and it is not the condemned form of seeking nearness to Allah through means other than Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions on one of his days:
A man from Yemen will come to you, called Aws al-Qurani. He was dutiful to his mother. So whoever among you meets him, let him ask him to seek forgiveness for him.إنه يقدم عليكم شخص من اليمن يقال له: أويس القرني، كان برًا بأمه، فمن لقيه منكم؛ فليطلب منه أن يستغفر له
It is also narrated from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said to 'Umar when he intended to perform the lesser pilgrimage:
do not forget us in your supplicationلا تنسنا من دعائك
Musnad Ahmad 195Da'if (Darussalam)
.
The point is: if a person says to his brother, "Ask Allah for me during your journey," or "during my journey," or "Ask Allah to grant me a righteous child," or "a righteous wife," or if his sister, or his mother, or someone else says to him, "Ask Allah for me"; there is nothing wrong with this. All of this is permissible.
The point is: if a person asks his brother, or his sister in Allah, for supplication; there is no blame in it.
