The Shaykh’s discussion with the students regarding the case of a couple who divorced, after which the ex-husband attacked his ex-wife with a knife on her face in retaliation, and what is the appropriate punishment.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student : One of them said: Our Shaykh, he proposed to a girl, and then it became clear to her that he was not suitable for her. So she told her father about the matter, and her father decided that the two of them should separate. They separated, and after about seven or eight months, he came to take revenge on her. He took a knife and struck her in the face, and their commotion began: some wanted to slaughter, others wanted to flay, until people intervened, including Yusuf al-Tarawneh. The narrator reached you, so he came to me and I told him, I want you not to get involved in these matters.

The Shaykh : The righteous have eaten your food, the angels have come to you, and the fasting have broken their fast with you.
The student : May Allah bless you.
Another student: He asked him how many questions.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student : I noticed, my Shaykh, I told him, my brother, by Allah, this father, this man, is the one who deserves to be struck, not the girl. Because this father was willing and had his eyes closed, and he is the one who prays in the first row behind me.
Another student: Her father?
The student : The girl’s father.
Another student: The girl’s father, yes, that is correct.
The student : So I told him, it is strange that he prays in the first row, and then the young man has not yet written his marriage contract, and she is the one who takes him to the hotel.

The Shaykh: Allahu Akbar.
The student : Yes, and she takes him to the hotel and teaches him to dance, and this father is the one who deserves to be retaliated against. I mean, he is not ashamed that he goes running after the demand. It would have been better for him to raise his daughter and keep silent, because this matter became exposed among the people.
Another student: But if we mean that there are many cases similar to this issue.

The Shaykh : He does not mean this specific issue, he means its counterparts.
The student : My Shaykh, even if I wanted to go, I mean, I wanted to go punish this person.

The Shaykh : By Allah, if he deserved it.
