Cases of the prostration for forgetfulness after the closing salam and before it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From Al-Aflaj, the questioner: (S. R) says: O Shaykh! When is the prostration for forgetfulness before the closing salam, and when is it after it? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The prostration before the closing salam, this is what is best, except in two cases. The recommended practice is that the prostration be before the closing salam, except in two cases:
The first is: if one says the closing salam due to missing a unit of prayer, or more, and then is reminded, or remembers, he completes the prayer, then says the closing salam, then prostrates two prostrations, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did in the hadith of the man with the two hands, and in the hadith of 'Imran.
The second case is: if one builds upon his predominant assumption. If he is in doubt about his prayer and builds upon his predominant assumption, he prostrates for forgetfulness after the closing salam. But if he builds upon certainty, the prostration is before the closing salam, due to the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him, he said:
when any of you is in doubt about his prayer he should aim at what is correct, and complete his prayer in that respect, then give the salutation and afterwards made two prostrations.إذا شك أحد في صلاته؛ فليتحر الصواب، فليتم عليه، ثم ليسلم، ثم ليسجد سجدتين بعد السلام
Sunan Abi Dawud 1020Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
But if he builds upon certainty, he prostrates before the closing salam, due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of Abu Sa'id:
If one of you is in doubt about his prayer, let him discard the doubt, let him build upon what he is certain of, then let him prostrate two prostrations before he says the closing salamإذا شك أحدكم في صلاته؛ فليطرح الشك، وليبن على ما استيقن، ثم ليسجد سجدتين قبل أن يسلم
So if he builds upon certainty and discards the doubt, he prostrates for forgetfulness before the closing salam.
But if he builds upon his predominant assumption, being in doubt between two or three, and his predominant assumption is that it is three, he makes it three, completes it, recites the tashahhud, then says the closing salam, then prostrates for forgetfulness; because he built upon his predominant assumption. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
