The son's obligation toward his father who abandons congregational prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner says: Your Eminence! My father, may Allah guide him, does not pray in the mosque; rather, he prays at home. I have advised him many times. Is there any sin on me regarding my father? And what do you advise me to do? May Allah reward you.

Answer:
You must advise him with kind words and a good manner, and do not cut off visiting him, because his right is great. Allah said regarding the child's conduct toward disbelievers:
but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindnessوَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًا
[Luqman: 15]. And they are truly disbelievers. The father is great. You visit him, you pray for his success and guidance, you advise him to pray in the mosque, and you should be optimistic about good. Do not do anything that hurts him, such as bad speech or a frowning face. No, be open with him, talk to him, advise him, and pray for his guidance and success. Do not cut off visiting him. The right of the father and mother is great. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
