The obligation of a mother toward her son who abandons prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In the second question from this questioner, the mother of Naif from Hail, she says: She has a son who is eighteen years old. She says: I command him to pray, but he does not act upon it, and he does not respond to me. I have been unable to deal with this many times and repeatedly, and then I left him alone. Is there any sin on me for that?
Answer:
It is obligatory for you to command him to pray, warn him, and advise him. If his father is present, it is obligatory for his father as well to take charge of him, even if it is through beating, until he straightens out and prays. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan ad-Daraqutni 3:5 If a boy of ten is to be beaten, then one who has reached puberty is even more deserving of being beaten. In fact, he deserves to be killed. He is to be given the choice to repent; if he repents, well and good, otherwise he is to be killed. This is a serious matter. If you are unable to handle it, take the matter of commanding him to the Commission, or to the court, or to the governorate, so that they may discipline him.
The point is that this is a serious matter, and it is not permissible to remain silent about it. If his father is present, or if he has an older brother who is older than him and can help you with this, that is one thing. Otherwise, take the matter to the authorities, or say to him: Stay away from me. The house is becoming unmanageable. Do not sit with me at all. You should take the matter to the Commission, or to the governorate, or to the court, so that he may be disciplined and treated as he deserves, since he has reached puberty. Yes.
