Advice for those who care for the insane and the mentally impaired

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence, perhaps you have a word to say on this occasion regarding those who care for this type of patient. They undoubtedly need special care and must not be treated like those who are sound of mind. I ask you to please offer a word to everyone who supports or inquires about this type of patient? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
There is no doubt that these people deserve mercy and compassion from those who look after them. Therefore, their guardians should be gentle with them, show them mercy, treat them with excellence, and be kind in guiding them. They may benefit from some guidance, as they possess some capacity from which they can benefit. Thus, an insane person may benefit from discipline, just as a child, who is not yet accountable, benefits from discipline and guidance. Likewise, we advise the doctors to fear Allah, to be gentle with these patients, to show them mercy, to treat them with excellence, and to strive for the means of their cure. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. Is there a word for the nurses, or those who serve this type of patient?

The Shaykh: Likewise, we advise all the nurses, both male and female, to fear Allah in this matter, and to show mercy, compassion, excellence, and gentleness. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
