I bought a plot of land to build a residence on it, then offered it for sale if it brought a price higher than the purchase price, in order to buy another plot of land for the purpose of building a residence on it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I bought a plot of land to build a residence on it, then offered it for sale if it brought a price higher than the purchase price, in order to buy another plot of land for the purpose of building a residence on it. Is there zakah due on this land when it was offered for sale?

The Shaykh : If a person, when he offers it for sale, does not intend trade or profit, then there is no zakah on it, because that is an item from which he is satisfied and he wants to sell it, and there is no zakah on this.
However, if he offers it for sale with the intention of making a profit, then these are goods for trade, and it is obligatory for him to pay zakah on them if a lunar year of possession has passed from his intention.
But it appears to me, and Allah knows best, from this question that the man wanted to get rid of the land and take another plot in its place. If this is the intention, then they are not goods for trade. But if the intention is to make a profit in it and earn a gain, then they are goods for trade. Yes.
