Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner, Muhammad Talil, says in this question: O His Eminence the Shaykh: The brothers in the program *Nur 'ala al-Darb* have a set of questions. He says: Is it permissible for a woman to shake hands with her mother’s maternal uncle? And is he considered a mahram (a relative one may not marry) to her?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows:
The maternal uncle is a mahram. The maternal uncle of the mother is the maternal uncle of the grandmother, and he is a mahram. Your mother’s maternal uncle is your maternal uncle, and your father’s maternal uncle is your maternal uncle. So your father’s maternal uncle, your mother’s maternal uncle, your grandmother’s maternal uncle, and your grandfather’s maternal uncle are all your maternal uncles and mahrams. Yes.
