Did I breastfeed from my grandmother along with my aunt, and did my aunt breastfeed from my mother? Am I a brother to my aunt and an uncle to her daughters?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : His EminenceThe Shaykh : I breastfed from my grandmother, and my aunt breastfed from my mother, who is her sister. Does this make me a brother to the aunts and an uncle to their daughters? May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Yes, as long as you breastfed from your grandmother the amount of breastfeeding that establishes prohibition, which is five breastfeedings or more, you are her son. Her daughters are your sisters, and her granddaughters are your nieces, so to speak. Therefore, are you a brother to your mother?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : A brother to your mother through breastfeeding? Do you address her as "Mother" or as "Sister"?

The questioner : I do not know.

The Shaykh : No, no, "Mother."

The questioner : And you become, in that sense, a mahram (a relative one may not marry).

The Shaykh : Likewise, the one who breastfed from your mother becomes a brother to you and a brother to all your brothers. Yes, that is right.

The questioner : My aunts' daughters.

The Shaykh : Yes, your aunts' daughters; your aunts' daughters become your nieces, because you are the brother of their mothers.

The questioner : O Shaykh, may Allah preserve you, there is some information.

The Shaykh : I think you are one of the students?

The questioner : Yes, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Give it to the guests.

The questioner : May Allah preserve you, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : From the guests?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Very well.

The questioner : I want, in a sense, advice to offer to the youth, especially in the time of trials, and especially the trial of women. What do you say about it?

The Shaykh : By Allah, my brother, advice requires time, and now there are only two or three minutes left. If you have a question, or if this is it, then, if Allah wills, we must speak about it next week, if Allah wills.
