The ruling on seeking treatment before the onset of illness, such as vaccination and the like

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on the following: First: seeking treatment before the onset of illness: such as vaccination?

Answer:
There is nothing wrong with seeking treatment if one fears the onset of illness. If one fears the onset of illness due to the presence of an epidemic or other causes from which one fears it may occur... then there is nothing wrong with taking medicine to ward off the calamity one fears. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:
Whoever eats seven dates from the dates of Madinah in the morning, no sorcery or poison will harm himمَن تصبَّح بسبع تمرات من تمر المدينة لم يضرّه سحرٌ ولا سمٌّ
. This is part of warding off calamity. Eating seven dates in the morning to ward off calamity before it occurs, fearing the occurrence of sorcery or poison. Similarly, if one fears a disease and takes a vaccine against the epidemic present in the country, or in the hospital, or in any place, there is nothing wrong with that. This is in the category of defense, just as an existing disease is treated; the disease one fears is treated with medicine.
But it is not permissible to wear amulets, such as hanging a tamimah or a wada'ah, fearing the evil eye, or fearing a disease. No, it is not permissible to hang them. Hanging tamimahs is not permissible. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade them. But medicine by cauterization, by drinking medicine, by applying ointment, by an injection against what one fears, vaccinating him with it; there is nothing wrong with that.
