The Meaning of "He Does the Deeds of the People of Paradise in What Appears to People"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is the one who does the deeds of the people of the Fire (in the hadith
A man may do what may seem to the people as the deeds of the dwellers of Paradiseيعمل بعمل أهل الجنة فيما يبدو للناس..
Sahih al-Bukhari 4207
) specifically the hypocrite?

Answer:
This person is acting in accordance with what Allah has decreed for him.
Q: In some wordings of the hadith, it is said:
in what appears to peopleفيما يظهر للناس
?
A: And in some others, it is said:
in what appears to peopleفيما يبدو للناس
So it can be either of these. One may do the deeds of the people of Paradise in what appears to people, yet be from the people of the Fire. Or one may do the deeds of the people of the Fire in what appears to people, yet be from the people of Paradise, with Allah granting him a good ending. Just as many people embraced Islam during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and after him, and were then killed immediately, dying upon Islam just minutes later.
Q: The intended meaning of His saying:
so he will be from the people of the Fireفيكون من أهل النار
is: those who will abide in it forever?
A: Yes—may Allah grant us safety—it means that misery was decreed for them beforehand.
Q: For example, the disbelievers who are embracing Islam now?
A: This is the same case. He lived doing the deeds of the people of the Fire, then Allah guided him, and he became one of the people of Paradise when he embraced Islam, even if he died minutes after his conversion.
Q: Even if it was after martyrdom?
A: Islam wipes out what came before it. So when he embraces Islam, Allah wipes away his disbelief.
