Is sleeping on a mat part of the Sunnah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it taken as a practice in our time that sleeping on a mat is part of the Sunnah?

Answer:
No, it is not part of the Sunnah; it is only done according to need.
Q: And what about one who is able to afford comfort but sets aside days to sleep on a mat?
A: If he intends to take a lesson, to account for himself, and to struggle against his self, there is nothing wrong with it, as a means of self-accounting and reminding oneself of the condition of the poor. Otherwise, if Allah has granted him good things, praise be to Allah. Allah said:
eat from the good foodsكُلُوا مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ
[Al-Mu'minun: 51].
