The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) sleeping on a mat

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 5488 ):
Q1: Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) always sleep on a mat placed on the ground, or did he sometimes sleep on an elevated place, such as a bed? And if a person sleeps on a mat following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), will he receive rewards or not?
A1: The Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned a chapter in his book *Zad al-Ma'ad* and said: “He would sometimes sleep on a mattress, sometimes on a woven mat, sometimes on a reed mat, sometimes on the ground, and sometimes on a bed between his cushions, and sometimes on a black cloak.” End of quote. From this, it appears that he would sometimes sleep on a mat. If a person sleeps on a mat sometimes with the intention of following the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), goodness is hoped for him. Allah the Exalted has prescribed following the Messenger in His saying:
There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent patternلَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ
[Al-Ahzab 33:21]
the verse. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
