Explanation of the words of Ibn Malik (may Allah have mercy on him): "Likewise, what lengthens the actions of preceding *** or lengthens a drunkard and what is joined to it."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"Likewise, what lengthens the actions of preceding"
These actions, as we have passed over, are from the forms of plurals, from the patterns of plurals. Plurals of paucal or plural?
The student: Plural of paucal.

The Shaykh : Huh?
The student: Plural of many.

The Shaykh : No, plural of paucal. Now, when you make these actions diminutive, you open the letter after the yā of diminution. So, do you say in "asbāb" (causes)? "Asyāb"? And do you say in "a'māl" (works)? "A'imāl"? And do you say in "abwāb" (doors)? "Abwāb"? And so on. So, when the actions that are a plural of paucal come, the letter after the yā of diminution is not broken. Now.
The student: Diminutive of what, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Huh?
The student: Diminutive of what?

The Shaykh : ...
The student: But in the plural.

The Shaykh : Huh?
The student: In the plural?

The Shaykh : ... Now, he says:
"Or lengthens a drunkard and what is joined to it"
This also is opened. So, do you say in "sakrān" (drunk)?
The student: Sakyān.

The Shaykh : Sakyān, yes. And do you say in "ghaḍabān" (angry)?
The student: Ghuḍaybān.

The Shaykh : Ghuḍaybān. And do you say in "iṭshān" (thirsty)?
The student: Iṭayshān.

The Shaykh : Iṭayshān. So, "lengthens a drunkard" is the one whose feminine is "sakrā" (drunk woman), meaning: the fa'lān whose feminine is fa'ulā, the alif remains in it and is not broken; the letter before it is not broken. Now, like "iṯaymān" in "Uthmān," is it made diminutive as "iṯaymān" or not?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : And we do not say "iṯaymīn." And on this basis, this would be an error from the behavior of the common people. Now:
"Or lengthens a drunkard and what is joined to it
And the alif of feminism where it is lengthened"

We stop here because the time has ended.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : We will read the explanation, if Allah wills, in the future.
