Do sins cause the loss of blessing?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The sister who used the letter "A" as a code for her name, from Riyadh, says in her question: I read that among the consequences of sins are punishment from Allah and the loss of blessing, so I weep out of fear of that. Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good?
A: There is no doubt that committing sins is among the causes of the anger of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and among the causes of the loss of blessing, the withholding of rain, and the unleashing of enemies, as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-A'raf: 130]. And He the Exalted said: [Al-Ankabut: 40]. And the verses in this meaning are numerous.
It is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sunan Ibn Majah 4022Da’if (Darussalam). So it is obligatory for every Muslim man and woman to be cautious of sins and to repent from what has passed from them, with good opinion of Allah, and hoping for His forgiveness, and fearing His anger and punishment, as He the Exalted and Sublime said in His noble Book regarding His righteous servants: [Al-Anbiya: 90]. And He the Exalted said: [Al-Isra: 57]. And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: [Al-Tawbah: 71].
And it is prescribed for the believing man and woman, along with that, to take the means that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has permitted, and thereby they combine between fear and hope, and acting upon the means while relying upon Allah the Exalted, depending on Him for the attainment of what is desired and safety from what is feared. And Allah the Exalted is the Generous, the Noble, who said (Glorified and Exalted is He):[At-Talaq 65:2] and He provides for him from where he does not expect [Al-Talaq: 2-3]. And He the Exalted said: [Al-Talaq: 4]. And He the Exalted said: [An-Nur: 31].
So it is obligatory for you, O sister in Allah, to repent to Allah the Exalted from what has passed of sins, and to be upright in His obedience, with good opinion of Him (Mighty and Majestic), and to be cautious of the causes of His anger. And be glad of much good and a good outcome. And success is from Allah.
A: There is no doubt that committing sins is among the causes of the anger of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and among the causes of the loss of blessing, the withholding of rain, and the unleashing of enemies, as Allah the Exalted said:
And We certainly seized the people of Pharaoh with years of famine and a deficiency in fruits that perhaps they would be reminded.
So each We seized for his sin; and among them were those upon whom We sent a storm of stones, and among them were those who were seized by the blast [from the sky], and among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow, and among them were those whom We drowned. And Allah would not have wronged them, but it was they who were wronging themselves.
It is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
and a man may be deprived of provision by a sin that he commits
Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive.
Those whom they invoke seek means of access to their Lord, [striving as to] which of them would be nearest, and they hope for His mercy and fear His punishment. Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is ever feared.
The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Those - Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.
And Allah the Exalted is the Generous, the Noble, who said (Glorified and Exalted is He):
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
