Useful Answers Concerning Visions and Fasting on Behalf of the Deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: From 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz to the honorable brother N. H. 'A., may Allah guide him. Amen.
Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. After that:
Your noble letter reached me, may Allah guide you by His guidance, and the five questions it contained were clear. Here are the answers:
First: Your mother saw a recurring vision that she was gathering sheep, and every time she gathered a group, another group escaped from her, and she was exhausted by it.
Second: Your mother sees her own mother many times, and she is ill in her life and after her death... etc.
Third: Your grandmother, your mother's mother, was ill with a nearly continuous illness, and she used to break her fast in Ramadan and make it up, and your mother used to help her make it up by fasting on her behalf... etc.?

First Answer: A vision like this is considered a disliked vision, and what is prescribed for one who sees such a vision is to spit dryly to his left three times when he wakes up, and seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan and from the evil of what he saw three times, then turn over to his other side, for it will not harm him, and he should not tell anyone about it; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
A good vision is from Allah, and a dream is from Shaytan. So if one of you sees something he dislikes, let him spit dryly to his left three times, and seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan and from the evil of what he saw three times, then turn over to his other side, for it will not harm him, and he should not tell anyone about it.
It is agreed upon as authentic.
As for the goat that your mother took from the sheep that had mixed with her sheep, and she did not inform its owner, and then they slaughtered it and ate it, she must repent from that, and she owes its value to its owner at that time. If she does not know its owner, she should give it in charity on his behalf to some of the poor. We ask Allah to forgive us and her and every Muslim.

The second answer: Regarding this question, it is like the one before it; because it is a disliked vision and it is from Shaytan, and what is prescribed for one who sees a disliked vision is what we mentioned in the answer to the first question.

Third Answer: A person's fasting on behalf of another does not suffice if the one for whom he is fasting is alive. Your grandmother has passed away, may Allah have mercy on her, so it is prescribed for the mother to fast on her behalf the days she fasted on her behalf during her lifetime; because her fasting on her behalf during her lifetime was not sufficient. If fasting is not feasible for her, what is prescribed for her is to give charity on her behalf for each day with half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of dates or other staple food of the country, and its amount is approximately (one and a half kilograms), along with supplication for her forgiveness and mercy.
