The Meaning of the Verse: “And as for the favor of your Lord, then speak of it”
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Dhuha: 11]. If a person has the ability to live in comfort, does this noble verse apply to him? And what is the meaning of: [Ad-Duhaa 93:11]?
A: The meaning of the verse is that Allah commanded the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to speak of the favors of Allah, so that he thanks Allah with his words as he thanks Him with his actions. Speaking of the favors is like when a Muslim says: “We are well, and all praise is due to Allah. We have much good and many blessings, and we thank Allah for them.” He does not say: “We are weak, and we have nothing… No. Rather, he thanks Allah and speaks of His favors, acknowledging the good that Allah has given him. He does not speak in a way that downplays it, as if saying: “We have no money or clothing… or this or that.” But he speaks of the favors of Allah and thanks his Lord (Mighty and Majestic).
And Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), when He bestows a favor upon His servant, loves to see its effect on him in his clothing, his food, and his drink. He should not appear in the manner of the poor when Allah has given him wealth and provided for him abundantly. His clothing and food should not be like those of the poor. Rather, he should display the favors of Allah in his food, drink, and clothing. However, this should not be understood to mean excess that involves exaggeration, extravagance, and waste.
But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].
