Dyeing the Beard Black

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the authenticity of the hadiths regarding dyeing the beard black? Dyeing the beard black has become widespread among many who claim to be scholars.

A: There are many authentic hadiths on this matter. The most famous is the hadith concerning the story of the father of al-Ṣiddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated by Muslim in his Sahih from Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When he saw the head and beard of the father of al-Ṣiddiq as white as the beak of a parrot:
Change this something, but avoid black.غيروا هذا بشيء واجتنبوا السواد
Sunan Abi Dawud 4204Sahih (Al-Albani)
In another narration:
And keep them away from the Black وجنبوه السواد
And there is the hadith of Ibn Abbas, narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, and al-Nasa'i with a sound chain from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There will be in the last of time people who dye [their beards] black like the pouches of pigeons, and they will not smell the fragrance of Paradise.سيكون في آخر الزمان قوم يخضبون بالسواد كحواصل الحمام لا يريحون رائحة الجنة
This is a severe warning. There are other hadiths on this matter, all of which indicate the prohibition of dyeing with black and the permissibility of dyeing with other colors.
