The Ruling on Seeking Blessing from the Dead
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A man died in our town, and news of his death reached us during the day. We saw elderly women from the town going to his house, where he was lying in state after being shrouded, in the middle of the women who were around him. We asked them why they were going to him, and they said: “We seek blessing from him.” What is the ruling on their action? Is it a Sunnah?
A: This act is not permissible; rather, it is a reprehensible act; because it is not permissible for anyone to seek blessing from the dead or their graves, nor to invoke them other than Allah and ask them to fulfill a need or heal a sick person or the like; because worship is the right of Allah alone, and from Him is sought blessing, and He, Glorified and Exalted is He, is the one described as Blessed, as He, Mighty and Majestic, said in Surat al-Furqan:[al-Furqan:1] And He, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:[al-Mulk:1] And the meaning of that is that He, Glorified and Exalted is He, has reached the ultimate in greatness and blessing, whereas the servant is blessed (with the ra' open) if Allah guides him, rectifies him, and makes him beneficial to the people, as Allah said about His servant and messenger, 'Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him):about His servant and messenger, 'Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him):[Maryam 19:30] AND MADE ME BLESSED WHEREVER I MAY BE[Maryam:30-31].
And success is from Allah.

Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner -
تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْفُرْقَانَ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَالَمِينَ نَذِيرًاBlessed is He in whose hand is dominion
تَبَارَكَ الَّذِيي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ[Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.
قَالَ إِنِّي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ آتَانِيَ الْكِتَابَ وَجَعَلَنِي نَبِيًّا And success is from Allah.
