The Meaning of Seeking Blessing
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q186: Abu Muhammad, from Makkah, asks: What is the prescribed seeking of blessing, and what is the prohibited seeking of blessing? Is it permissible to seek blessing from sacred places?
A186: Seeking blessing means seeking barakah, and barakah is sought only from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). It is prescribed to seek blessing through the names and attributes of Allah, and through the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was alive, such as seeking blessing from his sweat, his hair, his clothes, and whatever was connected to him (peace and blessings be upon him). This is prescribed. However, after his death, one does not seek blessing from his grave, his shrine, or the traces that are claimed to be the traces of the Messenger or the traces of the righteous. One does not seek blessing from them, because this is among the means to shirk (associating partners with Allah).
