The Awliya of Satan and Their Claim of Knowledge of the Unseen, and the Ruling on Going to Them and Believing Them

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first message in tonight’s session came from Ali Abd al-Rahman Rashid from Aswan, Arab Republic of Egypt. He says in his message: There is a man in our town who does not leave his room; he is called Shaykh Musa. People go to him to seek blessing, and if something is lost, they go to him to ask him to point out where it is. Some ignorant people swear by him and make vows to him. His family receives gifts from people and lives off them, whether in money, appliances, or livestock, and they divide them among themselves. When we ask about his prayer, they say he prays, but where does he pray the Friday prayer when he never leaves his room? They say he prays in any mosque, and sometimes in the Haram in Makkah, and yet he smokes. What is the ruling on this man, and what is the ruling on what his family eats from these gifts? Is this man one of the awliya (close friends of Allah)? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows: This man and his like are among the deceiver and misguiders who make a living by claiming to be awliya (close friends of Allah) or claiming knowledge of the unseen, or the like. It is not permissible to ask him, and it is not permissible to send him gifts. Rather, the authorities must be required to demand that he repent from his evil deeds. If he repents, well and good; otherwise, he must be killed, because this is a misguiding deceiver who deludes people. He uses the jinn and asks them about certain things, or he lies to people.
So the people’s belief in him that he knows the unseen and that he informs them about their unseen needs indicates that he is either a liar and a deceiver, or that he uses the jinn and asks them about certain things that they may know through eavesdropping or through their roaming in the lands. They lie with them a hundred lies and more. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who visits a diviner ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted.من أتى عرافاً فسأله عن شيء؛ لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين يوماً
Sahih Muslim 2230
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever goes to a fortune-teller or a soothsayer and believes what he says, he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).من أتى عرافاً أو كاهناً فصدقه بما يقول؛ فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:740
(peace and blessings be upon him).
Seeking blessing from him is not permissible, because he is a misguided misleader. It is not permissible to seek blessing from him, nor is it permissible to seek blessing from persons. Rather, blessing is sought from Allah (Mighty and Majestic), not from Zayd or Amr.
So what is obligatory in such a case is to expose his matter to the authorities, so that they may remove this person and prevent him from engaging in these abhorrent, blameworthy deeds, or perhaps they may imprison him.
The point is that his work is blameworthy, and it is not permissible for an Islamic government, or for the scholars of the Muslims, or for the people of authority and decision to approve of it. Rather, it must be put an end to and he must be prevented from this evil work.
Then, among the proofs of the corruption of his state is that he does not attend the Friday prayer or the congregation. This is a great blameworthy act.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked about a man who fasts during the day and stands in prayer at night, but he does not attend the Friday prayer or the congregation. He said: He is in the Fire.سئل ابن عباس رضي الله تعالى عنهما عن رجل يصوم النهار ويقوم الليل، ولكنه لا يشهد الجمعة ولا الجماعة؟ فقال: هو في النار
Attending the congregation is a necessary matter, and attending the Friday prayer is likewise.
And his claim that he prays in such and such a place while he is not seen, or that he prays in the Sacred Mosque, all of this is deception and lying, so that people may think he is a wali (close friend of Allah) and that he goes out and travels unseen, or that he is taken to Makkah as a karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person) for him. This is not among the karamat (miracles granted to a righteous person) of the awliya (close friends of Allah), but rather this is falsehood, and this is the sorcery of the shayatin and their lying to people. The shayatin may carry some people to distant places.
So the point is that this is one of the slaves of Satan, not one of the slaves of Allah. Rather, he must be opposed, and no gifts should be sent to him or to his family, and he should not be believed or asked. Rather, he must be punished until he abandons this work, and until he prays with the people, and until he repents to Allah , and until he abandons his claim of knowledge of the unseen. If he repents, well and good; otherwise, he must be killed. We ask Allah for safety and well-being. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
