Believing one who claims knowledge of the unseen and going to him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 20489 )
Q: We have a man to whom people come (they call him Mutawa' ) and ask him about lost things, and he informs them about them and where they are located. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding those who come to him and believe what he says? If he dies in that state, what is his condition? Is this shirk (associating partners with Allah) that takes its practitioner out of Islam? There is also a learned man who does not rebuke this man for this action, but praises him in front of people, although he does not go to him. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding him, and what is his condition if he dies in that state? What is your advice for him? Because I will read your answer to him when he comes, whenever I go to him and tell him that this is not permissible, and that going to this person and believing him is shirk, he says to me, "But he knows the location of hidden things, and he helps people, and his words are true." I told him that he uses the jinn. Despite this, he
does not accept it. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding using the jinn for beneficial things , and how should I respond to him?

A : The one who informs about hidden things or claims knowledge of the unseen is considered a fortune-teller who receives information from the Shayatins (devils). It is not permissible to believe him or go to him; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who visits a diviner ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted.من أتى عرافًا فسأله عن شيء لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين ليلة
Sahih Muslim 2230
and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever goes to a diviner or a fortune-teller and believes what he says, he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.من أتى عرافًا أو كاهنًا فصدقه بما يقول، فقد كفر بما أُنزل على محمد
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:740
(peace and blessings be upon him). And the one who praises this fortune-teller is more sinful than the one who goes to him; because by praising him, he has approved his work and encouraged people to go to him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
